Artist Info

Seasoned musicians, Werner Carstens and Craig Stott , will take to the stage at Die Boer again to perform their highly-acclaimed Tribute to Cat Stevens, “Peace Train to a Wild World”. They will be joined by Charlie Black on bass and Gavin Young on percussion.

“Peace Train To A Wild World” is a nostalgic, memorable tribute to Nobel Peace prizewinner, Cat Stevens, who has not only been hailed as one of the most important figures in the folk-rock genre, but is best known as popular British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

His debut album, Matthew and Son, and his first single, I Love My Dog, catapulted Cat Stevens to fame in 1966, but in 1968, at the age of 19, he contracted tuberculosis and took a leave of absence from the music industry to convalesce. It was during this introspective period that Cat Stevens penned his rich, personal, inspirational songs with his signature sound and yielded many hits, like Morning Has Broken, Peace Train, Moonshadow and Wild World.

Two accolades bear testimony to Cat Stevens’ extraordinary contribution to humanity: On 10 November 2004 he was presented with a Man of Peace award and on 4 November 2005 he was awarded with an honorary doctorate for services to education and humanitarian relief.

“Peace Train To A Wild World” not only highlights Cat Stevens’ haunting melodies and soulful lyrics, but also gives one a glimpse into the life of one of the world’s greatest folk-rock artists, from birth to current status as converted Muslim and humanitarian. The tribute features Werner Carstens, on lead guitar, mandolin, backing vocals, and as narrator. Solo folk artist, Craig Stott, whose rendition of Cat Stevens’ songs have earned him standing ovations, is featured on acoustic guitar and lead vocals.

Werner Carstens and Craig Stott invite you to hop onto their “Peace Train” and to enjoy the nostalgic trip to their “Wild World” of gold-status hits and showstoppers like Oh Very Young, Lady D’Arbanville, Moonshadow, Matthew and Son, Morning Has Broken, Father and Son, The First Cut Is The Deepest and Can’t Keep It In, to mention but a few.
